“Industry” is not a statistical term. What is meant is section C “Manufacturing” with divisions 10 to 33 – from food production to the repair and installation of machinery. It includes the group with several plants as well as the contract turning shop with five employees.
Food and beverage manufacturers (divisions 10 and 11) are also listed in the industry Agriculture and food. Mining, energy generation and construction are not part of section C.

A record represents a company with its business address. If a company produces at three plants, it appears once – at its registered office, which may be an administrative building in another region. For field sales territories, this is a common reason for businesses that seem to be missing.
Conversely, groups often run several companies at the same address: production GmbH, sales GmbH, asset-holding company, general partner GmbH. Checking for duplicates by address before a mailing saves postage and trouble.
The two-digit WZ codes are coarse. “Machinery” ranges from manufacturers of agricultural machinery to machine tool builders. The more precisely you describe what the business you are looking for makes, the easier it is to narrow the selection down to groups or classes.
We supply metalworking fluids and are looking for metalworking businesses (WZ 25, especially 25.62) and machinery manufacturers (28) in North Rhine-Westphalia with a phone number. Please exclude pure holding and sales companies where identifiable. How large is the selection?
